What surprises many first-time visitors is how close Frankfurt is to some of Germany's most beautiful landscapes. The Rhine Valley — UNESCO-listed, castle-studded, wine-producing — is barely an hour west. Heidelberg, with its famous university and romantic old town, is an hour south. Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the quintessential medieval town on the Romantic Road, is about two hours. Corporate groups love combining a Frankfurt trade fair with a team day trip to the Rhine or Heidelberg.
